Black Rot is a mixed media accordion publication, printed and bound on acetate. Made during my final year at university, this piece explores the relationship and fragility between depression and the self, using text from Andrew Barnes’ poem ‘Black Rot’. I also took inspiration from my own experiences with depression to help form this piece. I have accentuated shadows and forms to build the foreboding and destructive nature of depression. Black Rot has been publicly displayed at SEESAW, and the Manchester Poetry Library. Processes include ink and charcoal drawings, Indesign, creating a typeface and bookbinding. 3 metres long
